The Welcome Day of the University of Palermo dedicated to international students enrolled in degree programs for the academic year 2025/2026 and to international mobility students of the second semester (Erasmus+ and double degree programs) took place in the Aula Magna of Building 14 at the Viale delle Scienze Campus.
More than 300 studentsfrom numerous countries across all continents participated in the initiative, demonstrating the growing international attractiveness of the University of Palermo. Among them were also 36 international students enrolled in the MIDI Master's Degree Programme.
The event represented an important moment of welcome, orientation, and integration, offering students useful information about university life, services dedicated to international mobility, and the opportunities offered by the city of Palermo. During the day, students met representatives of student associations, institutional stakeholders, and administrative staff, received welcome gadgets, and shared experiences and expectations related to their academic journey.
The Rector, Prof. Massimo Midiri, and the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Internationalization, Prof. Fabio Mazzola, spoke at the event, highlighting the University’s commitment to promoting increasingly inclusive internationalization policies and supporting the integration of students coming from different cultural backgrounds. The presentation of the University, curated by the Head of the Special Service for International Relations, Dr. Valeria Floriano, focused on data related to the presence of international students, the main countries of origin, services dedicated to mobility and foreign enrollments, and the main opportunities for participation in university life.
Ample space was dedicated to students, who shared experiences of study, integration, and personal growth at the University of Palermo.
“Their testimonies highlighted the value of the opportunities offered by the University in the field of internationalization, such as the Just Peace program, aimed at students from countries affected by conflict, and the scholarships of the TNE MARE and Wagon to Africa projects, designed to strengthen academic cooperation with partner countries,” the organizers commented. “Student ambassadors involved in welcoming and guiding international students also spoke, together with newly enrolled students from Kazakhstan, Algeria, Uzbekistan, and Ghana, making the meeting particularly engaging and contributing to a climate of strong participation, intercultural dialogue, and the sharing of experiences.”
