Main scientific activities:

  • Biomolecular characterization of rare solid and hereditary neoplasms (breast, colon, NET, GIST).
  • Analysis of gene expression profiles and miRNAs in vitro and / or in tissue and blood samples. Analysis of the variation of the number of gene copies (CNV) in the main solid tumors.
  • Translational research studies aimed at new therapeutic strategies (pharmacogenetics).
  • Liquid biopsy as a dynamic tool for assessing treatment response and onset resistance in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC)
  • Liquid biopsy for the evaluation of minimal residual disease in patients with resectable colorectal carcinoma
  • Molecular analysis of oncohematologic pathologies (myeloproliferative disorders and chronic myeloid leukemia).
  • In vitro experimentation on tumor cell cultures.
  • Functional analysis of microRNAs in vitro.
  • Isolation and preparation of primary cell cultures.
  • Dosage of new possible biomarkers in the main biological samples.
  • Analysis of BRCA1 / 2 genes for the identification of genetic breast and ovary syndrome (HBOC, hereditary breast and ovarian cancer)
  • Analysis of BRCA1 / 2 genes in patients with advanced ovarian cancer and peritoneum for treatment with PARP inhibitor drugs
  • Analysis of immune checkpoints in the peripheral blood of cancer patients.

  • Real-Time 7900HT Sequence detector with SDS software, Applied Biosystems. Use: for analysis of gene expression in quantitative and qualitative analysis for SNPs
  • Affymetrix microarray platform. Use: for gene expression analysis
  • Bioanalyzer 2100 Agilent. Use: quantitative and qualitative analysis of nucleic acids and proteins, gels.

Main scientific activities:

  • Purification, propagation of stem cells from different types of tumors such as: Colon, Mammary, Thyroid, Ovary, Prostate, Lung and Glioblastoma;
  • Identification of the phenotypic and molecular characteristics of cancer stem cells;
  • Tumor-specific molecular analyzes of molecules having a key role in the process of tumorigenesis and metastagenesis;
  • Understanding the mechanisms that control tumor formation and progression, chemoresistance and metastasis formation;
  • Study of the mechanisms of resistance to the common anticancer therapies of cancer stem cells;
  • Development of a new technological platform for non-invasive treatment of oncological diseases based on the use of focused ultrasound;
  • Development of new antitumor therapeutic strategies based on genomic and functional proteomic investigations of cancer stem cells: identification of effective drugs that target cancer stem cells;
  • Development of experimental xenotransplantation models of cancer stem cells for experimentation with new drugs on human-derived tumors;
  • Therapeutic implications of cancer stem cells from adipose tissue for the regeneration of bone, cartilage and muscle.

 

 

BIOPLAST- Laboratory of BIOlogy and regenerative medicine - PLASTic surgery

Main scientific activities:

  • Study of a new population of adipose stem cell spheroids (SASCs), molecular characterization: genomic analysis and proteomics;
  • Study of the immunomodulatory role of spheroid adipose stem cells in vascularized composite transplants: induction of immunological tolerance and in vivo monitoring;
  • Analysis and comparison between the different anatomical sampling sites and stem cell extraction techniques from adipose tissue;
  • Isolation of epithelial tumor stem cells for the purpose of testing new in vitro anticancer therapies;
  • Development of new molecular technologies through the use of focused ultrasounds;
  • Isolation and preparation of primary cell cultures.
