Abstract
Giuseppe Barone (1861–1924) was a multifaceted Neapolitan scholar who engaged with Chinese civilization, culture, and literature. His extensive body of essays and translations on China forms a substantial corpus that enriches the history of Italian sinology with previously untapped details. Long overlooked by the field, his work is presented here for the first time in this volume, the result of an in-depth bibliographic investigation across the catalogues of numerous libraries and archives throughout Italy. This reconstructive effort brings together hitherto unknown texts which, like many tesserae, compose a rediscovered anthology. The collection restores space and dignity to this original scholar, bringing his distinctive essays and elegant translations to the attention of scholars and general readers alike.
