Abstract
Ali Smith explores the themes of Brexit, immigration and the environment in the four novels that make up the so-called Quartet, Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer, published between 2016 and 2020. In her unique style, which mixes realism, modernism and postmodernism, the author highlights the contradictions and tensions that animate the contemporary United Kingdom, in a period of radical change, asking for attention and awareness. In the background, the emotional and social repercussions of a choice that divided the country are investigated, with particular attention to the most vulnerable ones: immigrants. At the same time, the issue of the environment emerges as an urgency that cannot be ignored. With elegance and intelligence, Ali Smith's complaint invites us to look beyond borders, to reflect and imagine new possibilities for coexistence and hope.
