Abstract

This article explores the pallet as a paradigmatic object of contemporary reuse practices. Through a semiotic analysis of recycling and redesign, it argues that waste is not merely a material residue but the result of a process of de-semantization. By examining makers’ cultures and reuse practices, the paper identifies different forms of redesign as strategies of re-semantization, showing how environmental issues, media cultures, and design logics converge in shaping new cultural values.
