DARIO MANGANO

Feste religiose in Sicilia. Ovvero, sulla fotografia.

Abstract

The matters dealt with in Religious Festivals in Sicily seem obvious: a book about an aspect of life, the transcendental, which seems fundamental for Sicilians. The photographs of a then virtually unknown twenty-one-year-old, Ferdinando Scianna. accompany Sciascia’s words. These pictures, we are told, are meant to document what happens, to reproduce the reality that the great writer aims to relate. But are we really certain that things are really like this? The hypothesis advanced in this article is that in reality the book speaks not only about festivals but also, and perhaps mainly, about photography.
