The LIFE project aims to support the well-being and professional growth of both prospective and in-service educators across Europe. By fostering reflective dialogue, inclusive learning environments, and transformative teaching practices, the initiative addresses critical educational challenges through shared learning experiences and international collaboration. LIFE establishes transnational learning communities where educators can reflect on their values, beliefs, and pedagogical practices, while exchanging experiences and developing inclusive, meaningful approaches to education. The project brings together universities, schools, and training organisations across six European countries to build sustainable national and international networks. Through a blend of university-level courses, continuous professional development pathways, mobility programs, and a dedicated digital learning platform, LIFE empowers teachers to build resilience, embrace diversity, and guide younger generations toward critical thinking, civic engagement, and shared European values.
Educational systems across Europe are facing increasingly complex challenges, including high levels of stress and burnout among teaching staff. At the same time, educators must navigate diverse classrooms and address multifaceted social and environmental issues. Many teachers feel underprepared to support young generations in developing essential values, critical thinking, and civic participation. LIFE addresses this urgent need by offering structured support to future and current educators. Recognizing that teacher well-being is directly linked to educational quality and inclusive school cultures, the project creates dedicated spaces for self-reflection and peer learning. By promoting dialogue-based methods, storytelling, and group reflection, LIFE helps educators re-examine their professional identity and gain the confidence needed to address topics related to diversity, sustainability, and democracy in modern educational environments.
The main objectives of the LIFE project are:
-
Enhance Well-Being and Motivation: Strengthen the mental well-being, resilience, and professional motivation of both future educators and in-service teaching staff across Europe.
-
Foster Inclusive Learning Environments: Support educators in designing inclusive, reflective, and participatory learning environments that effectively address diversity, civic engagement, and sustainability.
-
Promote European Collaboration: Build strong networks and facilitate shared learning between teacher training institutions, universities, and schools across participating European countries.
-
Develop Transformative Pedagogies: Equip educators with dialogue-based learning tools, reflective practices, and innovative methodologies to nurture critical thinking and active citizenship in their students.
-
To achieve its goals, LIFE carries out a wide range of interconnected activities:
-
Training & Course Development: Designing and testing university-level courses for student teachers and continuous professional development pathways for in-service educators on well-being and transformative practices.
-
Hybrid & International Mobility: Implementing hybrid learning pathways (combining online modules and face-to-face meetings), study visits, international exchanges, and job shadowing in partner schools.
-
Learning Networks & Peer Support: Establishing two dedicated learning networks—one for future educators and one for active teaching staff—focused on peer learning, storytelling, and collaborative reflection.
-
Digital Platform & Open Community: Developing a digital learning hub and the Open LIFE community platform to host resources, interactive courses, and international collaborative spaces.
-
Workshops & Local Events: Organizing local, national, and international seminars to share operational guidelines, training materials, and the LIFE Resource Living Library.
