DEMS is an interdisciplinary Department (bringing together historians, legal scholars, economists, sociologists and political scientists) focused on a common research objective: to develop and integrate the various fields of knowledge that contribute to shaping the “cognitive frameworks” underlying the dual process of European integration and the desirable creation of a new international order based on universalist principles. Within this framework, particular importance is attached, among the research objectives, to the prospects for the integration and harmonisation of legal systems, including strategies to combat crime and the development of criminal policy guidelines at supranational level.
