DEMS is an interdisciplinary Department, bringing together historians, legal scholars, economists, sociologists, psychologists and political scientists, centred on a common research objective: developing the different areas of knowledge that contribute to defining the “cognitive frameworks” underlying the dual process of European integration and the desirable creation of a new international order based on universal principles. Within this framework, particular importance among the Department’s research objectives is given to the prospects for integration and harmonisation among legal systems, including strategies for combating crime and developing criminal policy guidelines at supranational level.
