10% research budget (20% for DIN) for PhD students with and without scholarships
Pursuant to Board of Directors Resolution C.d.A. n. 83 del 18/10/2017, each doctoral student is guaranteed, in addition to the scholarship and within the University's existing financial resources, an annual budget for research activities in Italy and abroad of no less than 10% of the gross annual scholarship amount. For doctoral students enrolled in doctoral programs of national interest (DIN), the research budget is set at 20%.
The budget may be used for any type of expense (travel and accommodation expenses, participation in conferences, schools, or seminars, purchase of IT equipment, consumables, etc.) as long as it is related to study and research activities abroad and in Italy, including activities carried out at the University of Palermo. Expenses incurred must comply with university regulations; therefore, doctoral students are encouraged to check with the departments before incurring any type of expense.
The request for budget utilization must be submitted through the dedicated platform for doctoral students, following this procedure:
1) The doctoral student submits a request for budget utilization through the platform https://ffr.unipa.it;
2) The program coordinator authorizes or rejects the request. If authorized, the request is passed to the department's Research Director or other designated administrative staff;
3) The Research Director or designated administrative staff, having verified the actual expenditure incurred, the supporting documents, and compliance with university regulations, will settle the cost and update the doctoral student's research budget on the platform.
The research budget not used in the previous academic year may be used in subsequent years until the doctoral degree is awarded.
