Introduction: Computer-mediated communication in class

Abstract

Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) is an umbrella term used to indicate any form of human communication through networked computers (Lee and Oh 2017). This, clearly, includes computer mediated instruction and learning (Strange and Banning 2001), which describes the feasible and alternative use of computer and/or technology to support and facilitate teaching and/or learning activities (Bull, Kimball, and Stansberry 1998; Nguyen 2008). Computermediated instruction/learning has great educational potential both inside and outside of the classroom because it allows learners to easily access avariety of educational resources using different platforms, exposes them to lessons and tutorials from native speakers, and engages them inavariety of online courses.
