Abstract
The essay analyses a set of texts produced in the Kingdom of Sicily (consultations, projects, advices and exchanges of orders and informations between Sicilian and Neapolitan institutions) that display the originality and at the same time the connections with the Neapolitan institutional apparatus regarding a crucial issue in the early years of Charles III's reign: the articulation of freedoms and privileges in maritime trade, which was profoundly reworked in the Bourbon kingdoms during the Eighteenth century. The connection between freedom and privileges in the regulation of trade between “nations” is contextualized within the issue of treaties and so-called “flag privileges”.
