NESMA MOHAMED TAHER MOSTAFA ELSAKAAN

Al-Qirāʾāt al-ʾiğtihādiyyah al-niswiyyah li-l-turāṯ al-ʾislāmī wa maʿāğim al-luġah: : Muʿğam al-Dawḥah al-tārīḫī li-l-luġah namūḏağan

Abstract

This paper explores how ijtihadī (progressive/reformist) female scholars reinterpret problematic notions in spousal relations (qiwāmah, wilāyah, nushūz) by addressing their semantic, historical, and social contexts. It argues that, beyond canonized Islamic sources, historical linguistic tools like the Doha Historical Dictionary of Arabic (DHDA) are essential for this endeavor. Through an analysis of ijtihadī scholars’ methodologies and their feedback on DHDA, the study highlights its potential in refining hermeneutical approaches to Islamic texts.
