Abstract

The article discusses the partial results of the research project "Libertino patre nati. Equites and senators descended from freedmen between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD", which aimed to address the challenging problem of the servile origins of the Roman aristocracy, according to a famous statement by the Roman historian Tacitus.
