Abstract
The volume aims to trace, within the Sicilian context, the directions of continuity and innovation in the use of stones for architecture, identifying fractures and persistencies in the history of construction on the island, and providing possible indications for the production and use of such materials from a perspective of sustainability and compatibility with the architectural heritage, the natural environment, and the built environment. The potential for exploiting local natural stone materials will be investigated with an interdisciplinary approach, in order to explore their possible technological applications and the potential of their material and formal values in architectural design, supported by a deeper knowledge of the uses and techniques in the island’s construction history.
