SHARPER 2023

Listen

On 29 September 2023, the European Researchers' Night - SHARPER 2023 took place. The PhD programme in GPA participated in the event by setting up a web platform on the topic:

Inland areas: strategies and projects.
The research projects in inland areas in Sicily of the Doctorate in Architecture, Arts and Planning, Department of Architecture

Depopulation, peripherality and vulnerability characterise the communities and inland territories of many European contexts, as a result of public expenditure containment policies and broader phenomena (denatality, social mobility).
Also thanks to experiments such as the 'municipal doctorates', some research conducted within the framework of the doctorate course in GPA are experimenting with new relations between disciplinary skills and the territory, exploring the different conditions of uniqueness of 'peripheral' contexts in Sicily, and developing tools and strategies to reinterpret and enhance their material and immaterial cultural heritage. These are not school exercises, but a process that implies a rethinking of research methods, where, depending on the case, economies and forms of identification can be taken into account, distancing themselves from the simplest answers (tourism) as well as from fashionable identity rhetoric.

The product was edited by PhD students whose research projects were consistent with the selected theme. In particular, the PhD students participated were: Luisa Lombardo, Alejandro Antonio Gana Nunez, Samuele Morvillo Gabriele Vassallo, Fabrizio Giuffrè, Desiree Saladino.
