Advisory Board
In 2025, the Advisory Board (AB) was established — an external consultative committee composed of six representatives from the research community, selected from national and international scientific associations. The members of the AB are proposed by the PhD curricula to the Coordinator and approved by the Doctoral Board. The Coordinator annually appoints working groups (GdL) to support the AB’s evaluations. The AB carries out an analysis of the educational and research program with a view to its improvement, using evaluation forms prepared by the Doctoral Board. Starting in 2026, the AB’s reports will be taken into account for the program’s reaccreditation.

Ornella Zerlenga, Professore Ordinario, Presidente Società Scientifica UID (Unione Italiana per il Disegno), CEAR-10/A, Università degli Studi della Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli"
Si laurea in Architettura nel 1988. Dottore di Ricerca nel 1994 e Assegnista di Ricerca (1995-97). È stata docente di Disegno presso l’Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria e l’Università della Campania. Nel 2000 diventa Ricercatrice Universitaria in Disegno; nel 2001, Professoressa Associata; nel 2011, Professoressa Ordinaria. Ha ricoperto i ruoli di: Presidente dei corsi di laurea in Design e in Architettura; Delegata del Rettore per la Docimologia. Dal 2020 è Direttrice del Dipartimento di Architettura e Disegno Industriale dell’Università della Campania e membro eletto del Senato Accademico. Nel corso della sua carriera scientifica ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti: il Premio Luigi Vagnetti (UID, 1989); il primo premio nel concorso sulla Storia del Disegno di Architettura (XY, 1992); la Targa d’Argento (UID, 2008); il Premio Ianuarius (Museo del Tesoro di San Gennaro, 2013); il Premio Universitario Paolo Iannotti (Ateneapoli, 2013, 2015, 2016); il Best Paper Award (UID, 2022, 2023). È socia fondatrice della rivista scientifica Eikonocity e, dal 2016, dirige la collana Temi e frontiere della conoscenza e del progetto (La Scuola di Pitagora). È membro di numerosi comitati scientifici; Presidente dell’associazione scientifica nazionale UID (dal 2024); Presidente della conferenza internazionale FORTMED 2025. Vanta all’attivo quasi 350 pubblicazioni scientifiche.
Teresa Sofia Barbot Faria Cunha Ferreira, Professore Ordinario, CEAR-11/B – Restauro dell’Architettura, FAUP - Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto
Teresa Cunha Ferreira ha conseguito una laurea in Architettura presso la Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto (FAUP), un dottorato di ricerca europeo presso il Politecnico di Milano (co-tutela con FAUP, 2009) e ha sviluppato ricerca post-dottorato presso FAUP (2010-2015). Ha esperienza professionale nella Direcção Regional de Edifícios e Monumentos do Norte (ex DGEMN) e nella Soprintendenza per i Beni Architettonici e il Paesaggio di Milano, tra altre consulenze, collaborazioni e lavori (2003-oggi). Dal 2007 insegna teoria, storia, progettazione e patrimonio architettonico e urbano presso il Politecnico di Milano (2007-2008), l'Universidade Lusíada (2009-2010), la Escola de Arquitectura da Universidade do Minho (2009-2017) e la FAUP (dal 2012 a oggi). Nel 2009 è entrata a far parte del Centro de Estudos de Arquitectura e Urbanismo (CEAU-FAUP), Gruppo PACT, dove svolge attività di ricerca, in particolare il coordinamento e la partecipazione a progetti, l'organizzazione di eventi scientifici e la loro divulgazione attraverso convegni, lezioni e pubblicazioni in ambito nazionale e internazionale. Karsten Zimmermann, Professore ordinario, Ex Presidente EURA, Technical University Dortmund
Karsten Zimmermann è professore di Culture della Pianificazione Europea presso la Facoltà di Pianificazione Territoriale dell'Università Tecnica di Dortmund. Formatosi come politologo, ha dedicato la maggior parte della sua attività accademica allo studio della governance delle città e delle regioni, nonché della pianificazione regionale. È stato presidente dell’European Urban Research Association / EURA (2013-2017) ed Editor in Chief della rivista Urban Research & Practice (2019-2024). È vicepresidente del comitato scientifico consultivo dell’Istituto per la Ricerca sulla Società e lo Spazio di Erkner/Berlino. Tra le sue pubblicazioni più recenti si annoverano una monografia sulla Governance delle regioni urbane in Europa (Routledge) e un volume curato sulle Politiche urbane nazionali in Europa (Edward Elgar). I suoi articoli scientifici si concentrano su studi comparati di pianificazione, regionalismo delle infrastrutture e governance dell’acqua, governance metropolitana, politiche urbane dell’UE e politica locale dell’uso del suolo.

Giancarlo Cotella è professore ordinario di pianificazione urbana e regionale presso il Politecnico di Torino. Vanta 20 anni di esperienza nella ricerca comparata sulla pianificazione spaziale, con particolare attenzione alle influenze reciproche tra l’Unione Europea e i contesti istituzionali degli Stati membri. Nel corso degli anni ha coordinato o partecipato attivamente a numerosi progetti di ricerca internazionali e nazionali, tra cui i progetti ESPON NoStaGeo, InTerAlp, COMPASS, SUPER, METRO e TANGO, Horizon Europe GreenFORCE, ERASMUS+ SPOT e DEMo4PPL e il PRIN 2020 Trackin-IT. Ha recentemente curato i volumi Spatial Planning Systems in Europe. Comparison and Trajectories (con Vincent Nadin e Peter Schmitt) e Handbook of Territorial Governance (con Umberto Janin Rivolin), ed è Editor dell’European Journal of Spatial Development e Associate Editor di Planning Practice & Research. Lorenzo Imbesi, Professore ordinario, Presidente Cumulus Association, CEAR-08/D, Sapienza Università di Roma
Architetto, Dottore di Ricerca, attualmente è Professore Ordinario presso la Sapienza Università di Roma, dove è Direttore del Centro Interdipartimentale Sapienza Design Research. Già Professore Associato e Chair del Master of Design MDes presso la Carleton University (Canada) dal 2009, negli anni è stato ICCS fellow – Government of Canada e Visiting Professor presso numerose università. Al momento è Presidente della Società Italiana del Design SID (societaitalianadesign.it), Presidente di Cumulus Association, dove è stato membro dell’Executive Board dal 2016 (cumulusassociation.org) e dal 2011 è membro dell’Executive Committee di EAD European Academy of Design. È anche autore di volumi e di numerosi papers in riviste scientifiche del settore, mentre è co-editor del journal Design Principles and Practices, membro dell’editorial board di “The Design Journal” (Bloomsbury Publishing, London) e del Direttivo di DIID Disegno Industriale.

Mario Rosario Losasso, architetto, dal 2003 Professore Ordinario di Tecnologia dell’Architettura presso il Dipartimento di Architettura, Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, di cui è stato Direttore negli anni 2013-2018, è da novembre 2024 Professore universitario in quiescenza autorizzato allo svolgimento triennale di attività di ricerca presso l’Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II.

Ornella Zerlenga, Full Professor, President of the Scientific Society UID (Italian Union for Drawing), CEAR-10/A, University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli"
She graduated in Architecture in 1988. She obtained a PhD in 1994 and was a Research Fellow (1995–97). She taught Drawing at the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria and the University of Campania. In 2000, she became a University Researcher in Drawing; in 2001, an Associate Professor; and in 2011, a Full Professor. She has served as President of the Degree Programs in Design and Architecture and as Rector’s Delegate for Docimology. Since 2020, she has been Director of the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design at the University of Campania and an elected member of the Academic Senate. Throughout her scientific career, she has received numerous awards: the Luigi Vagnetti Prize (UID, 1989); first prize in the competition on the History of Architectural Drawing (XY, 1992); the Silver Plaque (UID, 2008); the Ianuarius Prize (Museum of the Treasure of San Gennaro, 2013); the Paolo Iannotti University Award (Ateneapoli, 2013, 2015, 2016); and the Best Paper Award (UID, 2022, 2023). She is a founding member of the scientific journal Eikonocity and, since 2016, has directed the book series Themes and Frontiers of Knowledge and Design (La Scuola di Pitagora). She is a member of numerous scientific committees, President of the national scientific association UID (since 2024), and President of the international conference FORTMED 2025. She has authored nearly 350 scientific publications.

Teresa Cunha Ferreira earned a degree in Architecture from FAUP, a European PhD from Politecnico di Milano (joint supervision with FAUP, 2009), and conducted postdoctoral research at FAUP (2010–2015). She has professional experience with the Regional Directorate of Buildings and Monuments of the North (formerly DGEMN) and the Superintendence for Architectural and Landscape Heritage of Milan, among other consultancies and collaborations (2003–present). Since 2007, she has taught theory, history, design, and architectural and urban heritage at Politecnico di Milano (2007–2008), Universidade Lusíada (2009–2010), Escola de Arquitectura da Universidade do Minho (2009–2017), and FAUP (since 2012). In 2009, she joined the CEAU-FAUP research center, PACT Group, coordinating and participating in projects, organizing scientific events, and disseminating results through conferences, lectures, and national and international publications. Her research focuses on the history, theory, and design of architectural heritage, as well as planning, conservation, and maintenance of architectural and urban heritage, and construction history. Since 2015, she has been on the Doctoral Program Board at FAUP and, since 2018, has led the continuing education course Heritage and Landscape: Management, Analysis, Design. Since 2019, she holds the UNESCO Chair Heritage, Cities and Landscapes: Sustainable Management, Conservation, Planning and Design. Karsten Zimmermann, Full Professor, Former President of EURA, Technical University Dortmund
Karsten Zimmermann is Full Professor of European Planning Cultures at the Faculty of Spatial Planning, Technical University of Dortmund. Trained as a political scientist, his academic work focuses on city and regional governance as well as regional planning. He was President of the European Urban Research Association (EURA) from 2013 to 2017 and Editor-in-Chief of the journal Urban Research & Practice (2019–2024). He serves as Vice Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Leibniz Institute for Research on Society and Space in Erkner/Berlin. His recent publications include a monograph on the governance of urban regions in Europe (Routledge) and an edited volume on national urban policies in Europe (Edward Elgar). His scholarly articles address comparative planning studies, infrastructure regionalism, water governance, metropolitan governance, EU urban policy, and local land use politics.

Giancarlo Cotella is Full Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the Politecnico di Torino. He has 20 years of experience in comparative research on spatial planning, with a focus on the reciprocal influences between the European Union and member states’ institutional settings. Over the years, he has coordinated or actively participated in numerous international and national research projects, including ESPON projects NoStaGeo, InTerAlp, COMPASS, SUPER, METRO, and TANGO; Horizon Europe GreenFORCE; ERASMUS+ SPOT and DEMo4PPL; and the PRIN 2020 project Trackin-IT. He recently co-edited the volumes Spatial Planning Systems in Europe: Comparison and Trajectories (with Vincent Nadin and Peter Schmitt) and Handbook of Territorial Governance (with Umberto Janin Rivolin). SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN: A HUMAN-CENTERED APPROACH

Mario Losasso, Full Professor, President of the Italian Society of Architectural Technology (SITdA), CEAR-08/C, University of Naples Federico II
Mario Rosario Losasso, architect, has been Full Professor of Architectural Technology at the Department of Architecture, University of Naples Federico II, since 2003. He served as Department Director from 2013 to 2018. As of November 2024, he is Professor Emeritus authorized to carry out three more years of research activity at the University of Naples Federico II.
