Abstract

The fundamental skills that teachers specializing in inclusive education should possess for classes where there are pupils with proven physical or mental disabilities are described for the purposes of school inclusion. The skills were selected among those indicated by the MIUR decree of 30 September 2011, those recommended by the European Agency for Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education and those identified by researchers at the University of Palermo. Following the experiences gained during six editions of the specialization courses for support and through continuous discussions with the course directors, the skills necessary to carry out the job of support teacher in primary school are specified. It is hoped that the proposed skills can be taken into consideration in the design of the training activities envisaged by the subsequent specialization courses for support teachers.
