Moneta alla frontiera: analisi dei rinvenimenti monetali dalla Valel dell'Imera-Salso

Abstract

This paper offers, on the one hand, a brief reflection on the theoretical debate surrounding the frontier, and on the other, a more in-depth focus on coin finds, as useful indicators for analyzing frontier phenomena, as demonstrated by the case study of numismatic evidence from the Himera-Salso area. It is characterized by the presence of an ecological frontier, namely the Himera-Salso river axis. A screening of coin finds was conducted from the years following the Greek colonization of the area (post-580 BC) to the first decade of the 4th century BC. The indicators chosen are the issues of the Siceliot poleis gravitating in the area and those of Syrakosai, equally well represented.
