La Sicilia centro-meridionale tra le guerre civili e l’età giulio-claudia: rinvenimenti monetali e contesti

Abstract

The contribution analyzes the numismatic documentation found in the territory of central-southern Sicily in the period between the civil wars and the Julio-Claudian age, recomposing, where possible, the contexts of discovery. These are seven sites (Contrada Manca, near Vallelunga Pratameno, Castellazzo di Marianopoli, Piano della Clesia, Gibil Gabib; Bitalemi, Petrusa di Niscemi, Sofiana), whose numismatic finds are often unpublished, as well as in small numbers, so as to lead reflect on whether this contained documentation is an indicator of a depopulation of the territory or of a transformation of settlement methods with socio-economic repercussions on the use of money.
