Abstract

This article presents the results of the diagnostic investigations carried out as part of the planned process for the restoration of the main façade of the Canonica Regolare di Santa Maria a Vezzolano, located in Albugnano (AT) in the hills of Monferrato (Northern Italy). In particular, the tests planned at the Restoration Laboratory of the Regional Museums of Piedmont to evaluate the effectiveness of a specific consolidating product used for conservative treatments of sandstone ashlars are here presented. The scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDS mapping) analysis on an internal section of the sample about a month after treatment with diammonium phosphate (DAP) provides a detailed assessment of the structural changes induced by the consolidating application, useful for the conservation treatment carried out in the spring 2023.
