Abstract

The integration of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the power system according to the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) concept holds great potential in offering support services to the electrical grid. While previous studies have advanced centralized contributions such as frequency regulation, this work explores emerging strategies in voltage regulation with an emphasis on its local nature. Two different approaches are proposed: (i) autonomous voltage support by individual EVs during charging, and (ii) voltage support provided during grid contingencies to enhance service continuity. These techniques require minimal coordination and use local measurements, making them suitable for low-voltage grids with high penetration of renewables. Based on a review of the most recent publications, in this work the technical argument is build, along with implementation challenges, and considerations for its feasibility in future grid contexts.
