Abstract
The paper presents a novel cooperative strategy for the wide-area damping control of inter-area oscillations in power systems. The proposed strategy is based on the concept of the wide-synchronization control, considering grid-forming inverter-based resources as actuators. The cooperative wide-synchronization control is first illustrated from a theoretical point of view, discussing issues and corresponding solutions. The proposed strategy is then applied to the large scale dynamic model of the European power system, adapted with proper developments and modifications. The results indicate that the proposed cooperative wide-synchronization control can provide a remarkable damping of all the inter-area oscillations in the system, with performances even comparable to a fully centralized wide-area control architecture.
