Abstract
Marzeach is a religious Syro-Palestinian institution, mentioned by the biblical prophets Amos and Jeremiah and in many extra-biblical sources. In this essay the author studies the history of its interpretation, criticizing a diffuse funerary interpretation. Analyzing the root, the author presents a new hypothesis about pharyngeal fricatives voicing in the syllabic Akkadian of Ugarit.
