VINCENZO PEPE

Sociologia dei consumi turistici

Abstract

How did the practice of holiday travel originate and evolve? This volume answers this question by presenting the theoretical frameworks within which tourism is situated as a consumer activity, recounting its changes linked to digitalisation and technological transformations, and analysing the ways in which the forms of contemporary tourism consumption are articulated. These and many other questions are answered by this handbook, which focuses on travel, especially holiday travel. The volume is divided into three parts. The first part presents the theoretical frameworks within which tourism as a consumer activity is placed. The second part looks at the 'magnitudes' of tourism and its changes linked to digitalisation and technological transformations. The third part finally looks at the ways in which the forms of contemporary tourism consumption are articulated, focusing on the experience, emotions and memory that characterise it.
