Abstract

Teresa La Rocca was a professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Palermo during a crucial period of architectural experimentation in Sicily. Her professional partnership with Roberto Collovà, which began within the university environment, developed not only through several projects that were highly significant for contemporary architecture in Sicily – with the restoration and redesign of the Baglio Di Stefano standing out as perhaps their most important work even on an international scale – but also through the formulation of a theoretical approach to architectural design, of which the book Gli indistinti confini is one of the key outcomes. This publication outlines the coordinates of a design method rooted in the relationship between nature and artifice, interpreting architecture as a site of metamorphosis. The primary area for exploring architecture from this perspective is the island of Favignana, in the Egadi archipelago.
