FERDINANDO MAZZARELLA

Da Bartolo a Scialoja: il De insigniis et armis oltre ogni confine

Abstract

In 1889, Vittorio Scialoja, the great master of Roman Law, recalled the “opinio Bartoli” in a trial regarding names and coats of arms. Bartholus treatise “De Insigniis et armis”, “published” in 1358, had retained since then its extraordinary relevance. Then as now, Bartolo's vision offers an irreplaceable theoretical apparatus for understanding the relationships between brands and names, signs of the person and signs on the things.
