Abstract
The increasing demand for renewable energy and the land-use competition has driven the development of agrivoltaic systems, which integrate photovoltaic (PV) technology with agricultural activities. This study analyses the energy performance and land-use efficiency of an innovative agrivoltaic system developed by Horizon Firm S.r.l, featuring optimized solar tracking and bifacial PV panels. The assessed configuration is vertically oriented bifacial system equipped with a dual-phase solar tracking mechanism. Using PVsyst and tailored simulation approach to overcome its limitations in modelling tilting mechanisms, the study evaluates the energy producibility at Piazza Armerina (Southern Italy), where a 1 MW PV plant will test the patent technology, validating model results. A comparative analysis with a conventional fixed PV system highlighted that the patented system delivers higher energy production and improved land-use efficiency, confirming its potential as a sustainable agrivoltaic solution
