Abstract

The paper presents a study on the Hypergrid project in the Italian transmission network. The focus is on the impact of the planned High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) interconnections on the oscillatory stability of the system. The study is addressed relying on the IT10-Bus model, a simplified representation of the main dynamic characteristics of the Italian transmission system. The model is further developed to include the HVDC links of the Hypergrid project, implementing the HVDC converters control systems with detailed and user-defined dynamic models. For that, the paper also proposes additional Power Oscillation Damping (POD) controls to be implemented in the control systems of the HVDC converters. The results show that the additional POD controls are instrumental to ensure the oscillatory stability of the system.
