GIUSEPPE DE GIOVANNI

ARCHITETTURA PER AGRICOLTURA

Abstract

In Sicily agriculture has often undergone dangerous and unproductive transformations, linked to the modification of society. The migration from the countryside to the city and the change from agriculture to industrialization as radically transformed Southern Italian rural structural frame especially after the War. The change, which is still under way, has modified agriculture both from a social and a technological perspective. The transformation has affected the productive structure, the fixtures and fittings used for the production and whatever is connected with the previous agricultural architecture. In other words, there has been a total innovation in the economic relationships among the environment, the countryside and the peasant. The transformation has consequently influenced the agricultural architecture and either changed or neglected it.
