Abstract
Estimation of water exchanges in the soil-plant-atmosphere system and in particular the partitioning between transpiration and evaporation, is one of the most current topics in agro-hydrology, especially in sparse cropping systems like those typical of the Mediterranean belt. In this context, the present research aims to analyze the potential of jointly using the sap-flow techniques and eddy covariance for estimating the partitioning of evapotranspiration fluxes at field scale. The study focused on an olive grove located in Castelvetrano (TP) area. Measurements have shown that soil evaporation, despite the low vegetation cover (about 35%), is relevant only on days immediately following rainfall events, and is negligible during dry periods or after irrigation events.
