Abstract
Pl. Men. 403-404 has always had some exegetical problems. This paper re-examines the critical debate and proposes to interpret these verses as a complex metaphor: as it has already been suggested by Lambinus, supellex pellionis refers to the tanner, but contrary to common belief, it is explained through imaginary punishment and the erotic allusion.
