Abstract

In recent years, the concept of resilience has become increasingly prominent across a wide range of disciplines, offering a valuable lens through which to explore how land- scapes evolve over the long term. Far from being static entities, landscapes are shaped by the ongoing interactions between human activities and natural processes. These interac- tions give rise to patterns of change, resistance, and adaptation that unfold over time. As a result, the resilience of historical landscapes has emerged as a key topic of interdiscipli- nary investigation, drawing together insights from both the natural sciences and the hu- manities. This Special Issue, ‘Resilience in Historical Landscapes’, sets out to explore these dy- namics by focusing on the interplay between environmental forces and human responses across different historical contexts.
