Abstract
In Mistretta, the complex urban morphology suggests a more innovative and efficient approach to waste management, from the point of view of both the provision of the separate collection service and the use by the inhabitants, considering the different realities of the historic center and the expansion area. The historic center is characterized by a compact urban fabric and a road system that barely allows the transit of a car, while in the most modern urban expansion the building fabric is less dense, and the two-lane roads are decidedly wider. If, on the one hand, the waste management system is conditioned by the urban morphology and the discrepancies in the road network, on the other hand, the inconvenience involved in travelling steep and bumpy roads for the delivery of waste must also be assessed, especially by the most vulnerable population such as the elderly or people with reduced mobility.
