Abstract

The Madonie area, located in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, represents a significant territory due to the challenges it faces. Reimagining the future of rural areas, particularly that of the Madonie region, requires moving away from traditional perceptions of peripherality and marginality. Rural areas grapple with marginalization, material impoverishment, social disintegration, and demographic decline. In addition to economic and cultural disparities and the lack of essential services, they also contend with significant inequalities in acknowledgment. "EcoMadonie.net. Connected by Nature" proposes strategies to integrate and enhance the Madonie region, challenging its image of isolation. These strategies aim to establish networks among municipalities and landscapes, employing integrated policies at local and broader levels to harness existing strengths and unleash their transformative potential.
