Buccal drug delivery: what’s new and what does the future hold?

Abstract

If low concentrations of drug are required to gain access to the blood, transbuccal drug delivery may be very satisfactory for safe and well-accepted clinical applications.In the coming years, new systems equipped with subsystems able to promote transepithelial drug permeation, will be appearing on the market in the form of buccal delivery devices, thus improving current therapies and allowing new clinical applications
