Abstract

The plan for a cosmopolitan order that protects, as far as possible, from the risk of violence and war, does not configure the theme of a historical reconstruction that cultivates predictive ambitions; even less does it express the intention to bring human actions back to a rational order that dictates their dynamics and deterministically decides their course. Rather, it aims to bring out how the human species is not simply a natural concept, but itself indicates a historical conquest, on which it remains reasonable to hope, even in the face of a spectacle that never ceases to offer scenes of heinous violence and gratuitous idiocy.
