IGNAZIO BUTTITTA

Miti e riti del mare in Sicilia. Continuità e dispersione

Abstract

The infinite expanse of the sea, the multiple risks associated with "going by sea", together with the need to kill other living beings that populate it in order to sustain one's own existence and that of the community to which one belongs, have fueled, in Sicily as well as in other regions of the Mediterranean, mythical imaginaries and ritual practices which, despite the diversity of historical-cultural contexts, have long-lasting common structural traits.
