The University of Palermo has improved its position in the QS World University Rankings 2026, one of the most authoritative international university rankings, which analyses over 1,500 universities across 105 higher education systems worldwide based on quantitative and qualitative indicators.

According to data released by UniPa’s A.S.CENT. Centre for Advanced Studies, the University of Palermo has seen an overall improvement, rising from 894th place in 2024 to 837th place in 2026.

The improvement in the ‘International Reputation’ and ‘International Network’ indicators is particularly significant, as these areas are closely linked to the activities of the A.S.CENT Centre. UniPa has in fact risen from 295th place in 2024 to 293rd in 2025 and up to 274th place in 2026 for the category relating to international network and reputation. In detail, the score for international reputation rises from 10.9 in 2024 to 11.1 in 2025 and up to 17.8 in 2026, whilst the score for international network rises from 53.3/100 in 2024 to 84/100 in 2026.

Based solely on these specific indicators, the University of Palermo ranks 12th among Italian universities and 3rd among universities in Southern Italy, preceded only by the University of Naples Federico II and the University of Salerno.

“These results,” emphasises Prof. Antonello Miranda, Director of the A.S.CENT. Centre, “are the result of a carefully crafted policy of cultural and scientific exchange with high-profile foreign academics invited and hosted at our university, thanks to the networking efforts of the Centre and the willingness of our colleagues at UniPa. “Despite limited resources, in two and a half years of activity the Centre for Advanced Studies has managed to host over 70 internationally renowned scholars, who have also served as referees for the QS ranking.”
