L’approccio narrativo come sostegno alla maternità in migrazione

Abstract

This study explores the experience of motherhood in migration and examines how migrant women live their experience of motherhood in a foreign country. Pregnancy is a culturally determined event and the distance from home may increase the vulnerability of migrant women during this particular period of life. A frequently present issue is the sense of loneliness due to the lack of reference figures belonging to the family network, that stresses on the importance to improve health and education services to help women with the fulfilment of their parenting function, especially in situations of psycho-social vulnerability. This study proposes to use the narrative approach as a tool both in the training of the operators and in the intervention with women and migrant families who access to the services. The basic idea is that the opportunity to tell the story of one’s own life becomes a chance for recognition, fundamental need of everyone.
