La città interetnica. Abitazioni per stranieri nel centro storico di Palermo

Abstract

About a hundred new ethnic groups have settled in the last twenty years of the XX century in Palermo, choosing, in the now vast city plan, the historic centre as favourite location. In fact, at least until few years ago, it was easy to find very cheap dwellings, though in very bad condition. Pasquale Culotta has carried out various workshops and an interesting scientific research on the most widespread ethnic groups. From these experiences was inspired the essay "The interethnic town". Houses for foreigners in Palermo's historic centre, in which the housing issue is central, again topical because of the new migrations. However, the Existenzmimum of Modern Movement is here replaced by a relation aimed at identifying compositionally a balance between internal spaces, able to admit habits and customs of different ethnic groups, and external spaces where still a multilayered core remains.
