Aquatic ecosystem services: an overview of the Special Issue

Abstract

Aquatic ecosystems are among the most threatened ecosystems on Earth and their ecosystem services are among the least studied. The aim of this Special Issue is to raise awareness about the importance of aquatic ecosystems and organisms to human wellbeing by providing overviews of the ecosystem services they provide to human societies. This is done following the ecosystem services framework proposed by the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment.
