La storiografia italiana e la proiezione atlantica della Monarchia Spagnola. Alcune riflessioni

Abstract

Since the end of the nineteenth century, the attention of Italian historiography to the Spanish monarchy in the modern age has been a constant in political, social and economic studies. However, until the end of the last century, the attention to the ‘Atlantic dimension’ of the Monarchy was an expression of the interest of individual scholars within a panorama strongly characterized by research on the Mediterranean and European context. The passage from the 20th to the 21st century, instead, has witnessed the affirmation of new historiographical paths that adopted as an indispensable assumption the awareness of the impossibility of studying the Spanish monarchy if not in its imperial dimension: Mediterranean and Atlantic history need a joint analysis
