Abstract

This article aims at analyzing in-depth the culture and social role of judges in Sicily in the 16th and 17th centuries. Although being very different from each other, the figures of Mastrillo and Rao share the same social belonging and the same legal culture: both are representatives of the social class of Sicilian magistrates, whose historical reality must be considered in all its complexity.
