The Peripheri-City of the Inner Areas: Local Development in the Sicani Territory

Abstract

The inner peripheries are now subject to territorial and social metamorphosis in the sense that they are returning to be attractive places for younger generations through the rediscovery of the potential that they offer in terms of esources and propensity to change. Characterised by an ev-ergrowing number of bottom-up innovation experiences of both traditional crafts and agricultural production, and with abandoned sites in social and cultural places having been recovered, thus allowing the rediscovery the sense of sharing and conviviality typical of these places in the past to be rediscovered, these sites presently need to be discussed, described, and thought of in a new way. The experience of tourism, for example, is a new way to make these territories known and to increase talk about them (especially on social networks) through images and stories that transmit not only the beauty of the territories but above all the sensations of living there, known and rediscovered local traditions, their diffeent quality of life, their sense of hospitality, and their strength in constantly innovating. The inner peripheries are formed not only by territorial resources, but above all by the human capital that inhabits them, which is connected to history and is also experiencing new and diffe-ent forms of development. It is from the story of the latter that we can work to create a new im-age of the inner peripheries, to increase their attractiveness, in terms of investments and for new inhabitants.
