La mediazione o la difficile arte di mettere d’accordo nella Grecia antica. Cosa dire e come dirlo

Abstract

Conflict resolution always follows the same pattern, whether on an interpersonal or social level or between cities. This paper aims at illustrating the general patterns and at identifying some means of communication with the parties, both in terms of content and in terms of relationship. Regarding the content of the mediation, the following issues will be adressed: the reasons for the resolution, the appeal to a positive relationship between the parties and the mediator himself, the appeal to ‘collaborative individualism’, and the construction of a deep bond between the parties. Concerning relationships, the following issues will be discussed: the importance of a respectful attitude, the role of the emotional proximity, kindness and interpersonal contact.
