Abstract

The church of Santa Maria di Campogrosso, abandoned for some time, is now in ruins. However, this church represents an important historical and architectural witness of the county period in Sicily. In addition, the story of this monument is linked to a very important episode, the Norman conquest of Sicily with the emergence of the so-called “Arab-Norman” architecture. The essay describes the history of the church between abandonment, restoration and archaeological studies up to the present
