Within the framework of the WAGON2AFRICA Project, an academic mobility mission took place at Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU), located in Iringa, from April 29 to May 9, 2026.
The delegation from the University of Palermo, composed of Prof. Stefania Grimaudo (Department PROMISE), coordinator of the bachelor in Nursing, and Dr. Giuseppe Maniaci (Department BiND – Biomedicine, Neuroscience and Advanced Diagnostics), carried out institutional and academic activities aimed at defining a shared vision for nursing education and strengthening collaboration between the two institutions.
During the mission, strategic meetings were held with RUCU leadership, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Chrispina S. Lekule and Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Makungu Bulayi, as well as with the faculty members of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme.
The delegation also visited key facilities, including the RUCU campus, teaching classrooms, and the nursing and midwifery skills laboratory. A visit was conducted at the Iringa Regional Referral Hospital, where a meeting was held with the hospital management.
During their mobility period, the delegation also established contact with Giuseppe Sean Coppola, Ambassador of Italy to Tanzania, who expressed his willingness to support the initiative from a diplomatic perspective, further reinforcing the institutional and international relevance of the collaboration.
This mobility, carried out within Work Package 1 (WP1), represents a significant step toward the development of shared educational pathways and the strengthening of international academic partnerships in nursing education.
