Laurea cum laude in Civil Hydraulic Engineering in 1980 at the University of Palermo. Associate Professor of Hydraulics since 2003, he works at the Polytechnic School of the University of Palermo. He is author of about 50 papers on journals and proceedings. He studied discharge phenomena, dissipative processes in open-channel flows, discharge devices suited for flood control, flow measurement devices for steep open-channels, roughness and leak evaluation in pipe networks, very short and intense rainfalls. In the last years he has studied flow field and hydraulic resistance in vegetated shallow water, pipe transient, “extreme” tide fluctuations, wave motion energy production, run-up in beaches and coastal defence structures.

Ongoing research activities

1)      Flow field and hydraulic resistance in shallow water in the presence of a prairie of long and very flexible vegetation, such as Posidonia oceanica, Zostera, Cymodocea nodosa, etc..

2)      Sewer pressurization.

3)     Analysis and prediction of extreme tide fluctuations in connection with particular meteorological conditions in the Mediterranean Sea.

4)      Evaluation of the potential energy from wave motion in the Sicilian coast.

5)      Run-up in Sicilian beaches.

6)      Run-up on coastal defence structures.
