Full Professor of Structural Mechanics since 2001, teaches for undergraduate and graduate students in Chemical and Civil Engineering courses in Strength of Materials and Theory of Structures.

From 2007 to 2009 has been Head of the Department of Structural and Geothecnical Engineering. From 2011 to 2013 has been vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. He has served as coordinator of the Doctorate School in Structural Engineering. From 2004 to 2007 has been President of the Civil Engineering School and since 2013 he is Coordinator of the Graduate and Undergraduate School in Civil and Building Engineering.

He has spent long period of studies and research at the Brown University, Providence, RI  (USA), and at the TU Delft, Delft (The Netherland)

The research activity is developed on topics related to solid and structural mechanics. The main subjects are; structural Dynamics, Plasticity Theory, Damage mechanics, Interface mechanics. Delamination and cohesive fracture mechanics.

He is member of several Italian and International scientific Associations and he serve as referee for a number of prestigious International scientific journals.

He is author of more than 100 original scientific paper published in International Journals and in Proceedings of Italian and International Conferences.

He has been in charge of several research projects supported by the Italian Ministry of University and Research MIUR, (Local Principal Investigator of 7 PRIN projects). He has also been a member of Scientific Committee of International Conferences.
